A word to the wise

Never miss a good chance to shut up

– Will Rogers

Oh,  if only everyone on online discussion boards could take a moment to hear that advice from Will Rogers. The problem with the internet is that while it democratises information, there is often little or no filter or ‘gate-keeper’ to refine the information provided to the masses. It allows for the occasionally charismatic and frequently allows the self-styled experts to position themselves prominently within a confined group and shout down all opposing information no matter how correct it may be. Still, each experience provides us with an opportunity to learn and use that new-found wisdom to our advantage if the situation occurs again. None of us come with perfect information or knowledge, but each of us comes with equal worth and that gives us a duty to show an ounce of respect for the ‘other’ no matter how obnoxious or noxious they are being. Perhaps like me they too are fighting their own unseen battles. Sometimes, I too must  never miss a chance to shut up.
